Nigerian author Samuel Kọláwọlé is currently on tour around the United States in support of his debut novel The Road to the Salt Sea! He is scheduled for a series of events at bookstores and literary festivals spanning the country to talk about the new book, the writing process, his inspirations, and much more! This is a great opportunity for book lovers to meet and hear from the author himself!

Described as “wrenching and luminous,” The Road to the Salt Sea centers around Able God, a Nigerian man caught in a web of violence, and zooms out into an incisive exploration of the global migration crisis. Suspenseful, sharp, and illuminating, The Road to the Salt Sea is a story of family, fate, religion, survival, the failures of the Nigerian class system, and what often happens to those who seek their fortunes elsewhere. Kirkus Reviews has praised the book:

Kọláwọlé’s portrait of moral degradation is memorable, as Able God is forced to abandon his virtues one by one for the sake of survival…He’s one of countless refugees seeking a new life, but his trials are singular and harrowing. A bracing, well-paced story of migrant desperation.

Samuel Kọ́láwọlé was born and raised in Ibadan, Nigeria. His work is published in several major journals. He has received many residencies, fellowships, and honors including being a finalist for the Graywolf Press Africa Prize, shortlisted for UK’s The First Novel Prize, and winning an Editor-Writer Mentorship Program for Diverse Writers from The Word for Diversity. He teaches fiction writing as an Assistant Professor of English and African Studies at Pennsylvania State University.
