Nigerian publishing house Witsprouts Books has shared the cover for I Cry At the Feet of My Other Body and Other Stories, the debut short story collection from Mustapha Enesi, set for release in September 2025. The book is now available for pre-order!
A moody illustration in dark blue and white tones, the cover shows a pregnant woman seated at the edge of her bed, dressed in white. It’s a striking image—quiet and evocative—that captures the emotional intensity at the heart of Enesi’s stories.
Blending realist and fabulist modes, the collection explores womanhood in all its complexity—motherhood, grief, sexuality, longing, and acceptance—set against the pressures of a patriarchal world. Each story opens a window into interconnected lives, handled with empathy and literary precision.
Mustapha Enesi, an Ebira writer based in Lagos, Nigeria, has long been praised for his sensitive and layered prose. His short stories Kesandu and Safety Pins Are Good Omens won the 2021 K & L Prize for African Literature and the Awele Creative Trust Award, respectively. He was also a finalist for the 2021 Alpine Fellowship Writing Prize and the Arthur Flowers Flash Fiction Prize. His work has appeared in several literary magazines, with his flash fiction Shoes receiving high commendation in Litro Magazine’s summer contest.
