Award-winning British-Nigerian poet Theresa Lola brought a literary dimension to the recent launch of NEST New York’s new perfume collection, VOYAGES.

As part of an immersive dinner experience, Lola wrote and performed two bespoke poems inspired by the collection, offering guests a poetic interpretation of the scents and stories behind the fragrances. Her words were designed to guide listeners on “a journey, a voyage,” echoing the thematic essence of the collection which was inspired by the beautiful Kensington Gardens in London.

In an Instagram post, Lola shared:

It was a pleasure to capture the beauty of their perfumes using poetry. You can imagine the room had a glorious scent ‍ I’m still debating my favourite perfume. Currently it’s Opulent Osmanthus

Known for enriching multidisciplinary projects through poetry, Theresa Lola has performed at venues such as the ICA, Royal Albert Hall, and the Jazz Cafe. Her visual poetry exhibition debuted at Bermondsey Project Space, and she has been commissioned by Selfridges, the Mayor of London’s Office, and Royal Festival Hall, among others.

Lola is the author of two acclaimed poetry collections. Her debut, In Search of Equilibrium (Nine Arches Press), features a poem now studied in UK secondary schools. Her second book, Ceremony for the Nameless (Penguin), was described by The Guardian as a collection that “assures her place as a trailblazer for a new wave of poets.” She holds an MSt in Creative Writing from the University of Oxford.
