Àrokò Cooperative invites fiction and poetry submissions for its inaugural anthology exploring folklore from Africa and the African diaspora. Curated and edited by Aishatu Ado, the anthology seeks work that reimagines folktales, myths, fables, legends, and folkloric figures.
Deadline: December 31, 2025
The anthology welcomes stories featuring spirits and tricksters, ancestral presences, and folklore that transforms across oceans. The editors seek narratives in the spirit of Africanfuturism, stories grounded in African and Afro-diasporic cosmologies, philosophies, and lived experiences.
Eligibility: Self-identified Black writers from the African continent and the African diaspora.
Guidelines:
- Fiction: 2,000–7,000 words (previously unpublished)
- Poetry: Up to 5 poems per submission, max 10 pages (previously unpublished)
- Format: Modern Manuscript Format (.RTF, .DOC, or .DOCX)
- Include name, email, and pronouns (optional) in upper-left corner
- Multiple submissions welcome (separate emails)
- Subject line and file name must match story title
- Include short third-person bio in email body

- No AI-generated work
Compensation: One print copy and one digital copy of the anthology. Author discount for additional copies.
Rights: Six months exclusivity from publication. Contributors retain copyright.
