The audiobook for Marvellous Michael Anson’s Firstborn of the Sun will be narrated by Folake Olowofoyeku, best known for her role in CBS’s Bob ❤️ Abishola, and Adjoa Andoh, the beloved Lady Danbury from Netflix’s Bridgerton.
The epic fantasy romance follows L’ore, an outcast in the Kingdom of Oru who harbors a dangerous secret: she is the only one without agbára, the ability to harness power from the sun. On pain of death, she must conceal this from everyone, including her best friend Alawani. When the gods declare Alawani an Àlùfáà High Priest and he must face a brutal trial likely to kill him, L’ore vows to rescue him. Her desperate attempt to channel agbára unleashes icy shadow magic instead, a power that originated from a forbidden land beyond Oru. Together, L’ore and Alawani must seek sanctuary while discovering a secret that could bring the kingdom to its knees.
Described as Game of Thrones meets Children of Blood and Bone, the novel features forbidden magic, friends-to-lovers romance, courtly politics, and deadly trials.
Andoh’s involvement continues her extensive work narrating African literature. The Ghanaian-British actress has narrated over 150 audiobooks and was inducted as a Golden Voice by AudioFile in 2022, a lifetime achievement honor for audiobook narrators. Her previous African audiobook narrations include Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s Americanah, Nnedi Okorafor’s Remote Control and Lagoon, Ayobami Adebayo’s Stay with Me, Taiye Selasi’s Ghana Must Go, Namwali Serpell’s The Old Drift, and Abi Daré’s The Girl with the Louding Voice and And So I Roar.
We’re thrilled to hear both Olowofoyeku and Andoh bring this epic fantasy to life!
