The Makerere Historical Journal has extended its 2025 call for papers deadline to December 8th, 2025, inviting scholars to submit articles, reports, and book reviews for Volume 7, scheduled for publication in 2026. The extension offers researchers additional time to contribute to one of East Africa’s longest-running academic journals focused on the region’s history, archaeology, and heritage.
Originally established in 1975, the Makerere Historical Journal is published by the Department of History, Archaeology and Heritage Studies at Makerere University in Uganda. The peer-reviewed journal welcomes submissions on all topics related to Ugandan and Eastern African history, archaeology and heritage, as well as conceptually or thematically related works that engage with the department’s scholarly conversations.
The call comes as Volume 6 prepares for publication later this month. Scholars interested in contributing to Volume 7 should refer to the journal’s submission guidelines and specific requirements for different types of submissions, available on the journal’s website. Submissions must be completed through the online system after creating an account at journals.mak.ac.ug/mhj.
For questions about submissions or the review process, authors can contact the Associate Editor at [email protected].
