Cassava Republic Press is hosting a pitch event in Abuja on January 28th, offering writers direct access to Publishing Director Bibi Bakare-Yusuf and insight into how manuscripts move from submission to publication. The session at Yellow Danfo Bookstore in Maitama will feature a discussion on manuscript assessment followed by live pitches from five to eight selected writers who will receive feedback on their projects’ clarity, positioning, and market readiness.
The event targets writers with complete or near-complete projects across literary fiction, commercial fiction, romance, romantasy, horror, crime, speculative fiction, non-fiction, middle grade, young adult, and children’s books. Cassava Republic is explicit about what this isn’t: not a workshop, not an open mic, not a guarantee of publication, and not open to poetry submissions. Selected participants get three to five minutes to pitch their work as it currently exists, followed by feedback from Bakare-Yusuf and fellow attendees. The emphasis is on professional presentation and understanding editorial judgment rather than line-by-line critique or developmental guidance.
Cassava Republic is creating structured opportunities for writers to understand publishing mechanics while publishers scout talent directly, take advantage! The Abuja event is the first in a planned series, with future sessions promised both online and in other cities. Registration is required and slots are limited. Register here by January 23.
