This Thursday, 9 April, the African Cultural Studies Student Association (ACSSA) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison hosts a virtual conversation with one of its own alumni, Dr. Omotola Okunlola, now an Assistant Professor in the Department of Gender, Women, and Sexuality Studies at the University of Minnesota.
Okunlola earned her PhD in African Cultural Studies from UW-Madison, having come through Obafemi Awolowo University and the University of Ibadan in Nigeria before arriving in Madison as a Fulbright Scholar in 2018. Her work sits at the intersection of African and Black feminisms, literary studies, popular culture, and gender, and her trajectory from doctoral student to faculty offers a compelling map for anyone navigating a similar path.
The event runs from 6:00pm to 8:00pm CST and is open virtually. It is an excellent opportunity for students and early-career researchers interested in African cultural studies to hear firsthand about the journey from graduate training to the academy.
