We first told you Paramount was moving forward with a film adaptation of Tomi Adeyemi’s Children of Blood and Bone, with Gina Prince-Bythewood attached to direct. Casting and production have since wrapped, and the studio has now released the film’s first full trailer.

Set in the fantasy kingdom of Orïsha, Children of Blood and Bone follows Zélie Adebola, a young maji whose people were stripped of their magic by a ruthless king years earlier, as she embarks on a dangerous quest to restore magic to her land before it’s lost forever. The film stars Amandla Stenberg as Zélie, alongside a cast rounded out by newcomers and established names in the roles of Princess Amari, Inan, and the film’s other central maji and royal figures. It is produced by Paramount Pictures, adapted from Adeyemi’s bestselling 2018 debut novel, with Adeyemi herself credited as a co-writer on the screenplay.

The film is set for release in theaters January 2027.
