Noisy Streetss Publishing, the Nigerian independent press known for centering the authentic stories of young Africans, is stepping into longform fiction. The publisher has unveiled a 2027–2028 slate of debut and established African novelists, marking its first-ever round of novel acquisitions and a significant expansion beyond the anthology publishing that built its name.

The move follows the sold-out success of Noisy Streetss’ short story collection, Ponmo is a Bird That Has No Place in a Cultured Culinary Sky & Other Stories, and reads as a deliberate next chapter for the press: building out the fiction infrastructure African writers can grow within, for readers in Nigeria, across the continent, and beyond.

Thematically, the list ranges wide: stories that weigh the life you know against the one you could have lived, that push back against systems built to destroy you, that find safety in love after fear, that sit with the difference between what people need and what they want, and a few genuinely chilling tales of entities that walk among us. As Senior Associate Editor Sharon Adeoye-Ajanlekoko put it, “our upcoming catalogue is an all-you-can-eat buffet—there is something for everyone!”

The 2027–2028 list includes a new release from acclaimed fantasy author Erhu Kome, alongside debut novels from Solarin Sodara, Dzifianu Afi Edoh-Torgah, Ayomide Ademola, Chidera Udochukwu-Nduka, Tonye George, and Anthony Azekwoh. World rights for all seven titles were acquired by Editor-in-Chief Modupe Daramola.

Daramola says the leap into longform fiction had been part of the plan from the start. “We always planned to showcase African literature in every shape and form,” she said, adding that the open call drew such a strong pool of submissions that narrowing the list down to seven titles wasn’t easy. What united the manuscripts, despite spanning different genres, was their fidelity to the African lived experience — stories, in her words, that are “unapologetically African.”

Adeoye-Ajanlekoko previewed what readers can expect in more detail: fiction that lingers in the grey areas of human experience, that gets tangled up in the complexities of love and relationships and existential dread, and that follows characters reckoning with the fallout of their own good intentions.
