Mawazo Africa Writing Institute is accepting applications for its second annual “Writing the Novel” course. Mawazo Africa Writing Institute is a creative arts company based in Entebbe, Uganda “whose mission is to nurture African writers so as to enhance literary production across the continent, with a particular emphasis on creative writing workshops in all genres.”

“Writing the Novel 2,” open to writers across Africa, will be facilitated by South Africa-based Nigerian writer Yewande Omotoso, author of the 2017 Baileys Prize-longlisted The Woman Next Door and the 2013 Etisalat Prize-shortlisted Bom Boy.

In an email to Brittle Paper, Mawazo Africa Writing Institute co-director Farida Bagalaaliwo explained that it would be a 3-month online programme and would take place between October 2018 and January 2019.

Novel manuscripts submitted must be at least 80,000 words.

The submission period is from June 1 to July 30, 2018.
