The British Science Fiction Awards have announced the finalists for their 2022 awards and two Africans are on it. They are the Nigerian writers Jordan Ifueko, listed in the category of “Best Book for Younger Readers” for her novel Redemptor, the second and final book in the Raybearer series, and Oghenechovwe Donald Ekpeki listed in the category of “Best Shorter Fiction” for his short story “02 Arena,” published in Galaxy Edge Magazine.

Also honored were Dan dos Santos and Lauren Panepinto for their work on the gorgeous cover design of Suyi Davies Okungbowa’s Son of the Storm, which was featured on Brittle Paper’s 20 Best African Book Covers of 2021; and Maria Spada for their work on the cover of the Oghenechovwe Donald Ekpeki-edited The Year’s Best African Speculative Fiction.

First awarded in 1970, the British Science Fiction Awards (BSFA) annually presented by the British Science Fiction Association, honoring the best works in the science fiction genre. Winners are selected based on a vote from members of the BSFA and more recently, members of Eastercon.

The winners will be announced at the year’s Eastercon, themed “Reclamation,” to be held at the Heathrow Raddison Red, 15th-19th April 2022. Attendance is free for nominees and members of the BAFA and Eastercon.

Congratulations to the finalists!
