The African Speculative Fiction Society announces the the finalists for the 2022 Nommo Awards.

Named after a Dogon ancestral spirit, the awards were founded in 2016 and recognize “works of speculative fiction by Africans, defined as “science fiction, fantasy, stories of magic and traditional belief, alternative histories, horror and strange stuff that might not fit in anywhere else.”

The finalists are divided into four categories: the 1000 USD Best Novel named after the award’s benefactor Tom Ilube, the 500 USD Best Novella, the 500 USD Best Short Story, and the 1000 USD Best Comic or Graphic Novel.

Once again, the list presents a stacked cohort, featuring recurring names, and pitching well established authors against relative newcomers. The winners in each category will be decided by ASFS member votes.
