Tolulope Popoola is back with another brilliant flash fiction series! Brittle Paper is excited about the news that, starting 10 May 2025, we will be running a 10-week series, featuring two instalments of each of the five collections!
Brittle Paper has long been an admirer and supporter of Tolulope Popoola, and we’ve been privileged to publish her works as early as 2013. In 2017/18, we ran an eight-week series for the brilliant Memoirs of a Lagos Wedding Planner , and we are thrilled to have Popoola share and showcase her long-awaited new works with the Brittle Paper family! We asked Popoola about her new collection and working with Brittle Paper again, and she said:
I’m so excited to be teaming up with Brittle Paper again! Back in 2018, they featured my first Memoirs of a Lagos Wedding Planner series, and the response was incredible. Now, we’re bringing readers even more drama, chaos, and unforgettable moments with a brand-new set of flash fiction stories! I’m thrilled that Brittle Paper will be showcasing exclusive excerpts from the new series. It means their readers get a front-row seat to all the laughter, tension, and heartwarming moments before anyone else. It’s going to be such a fun ride, and I can’t wait for everyone to dive in!
From being an award-winning writer and novelist, to founder and editor of Accomplish Press, to being our African Flash Fiction Queen, Popoola is an all-around literary icon! After taking a little break, the Flash Fiction Queen is back, and Accomplish Press has published five new collections, including a return to the Memoirs of a Lagos Wedding Planner. When asked about her inspiration for the collection and characters, Popoola said:
I’ve always been fascinated by Lagos as a city. Its madness, its vibrancy, its
rhythm and the stories it throws at you daily. I wanted to capture slices of everyday life in a way that was quick, relatable, and fun. […] I wanted to show Lagos from multiple angles: through the eyes of a baker, a taxi driver, a junior banker, and more. Everyone in Lagos has a story, and this format allows us to hear from characters we might otherwise overlook.
The new and exciting five collections include:
Memoirs of a Serial Best Man
A hilarious and chaotic deep dive into the life of CJ, a man who has been a best man more times than he can count. From missing wedding rings to surprise proposals and
overzealous mothers-in-law, Lagos weddings are full of unpredictable drama, and CJ has seen it all. In this collection of fast-paced stories, readers will laugh, gasp, and wonder how one man can attend so many weddings without having his own!
Memoirs of a Lagos Junior Banker
Life as a young banker in Lagos is not for the faint-hearted. Onome Eferogho, a fresh
graduate eager to make a name for herself, soon finds out that her biggest challenges are fraudulent emails, troublesome customers, and a persistent office toaster. Will she
survive the chaos of corporate Lagos banking, or will she escape before she loses her
sanity?
Memoirs of a Lagos Taxi Driver
After losing his banking job, Ladi thought driving a taxi in Lagos would be an easy hustle. He was wrong. From entitled VIP customers to mysterious late-night passengers, bribe-hungry traffic officers, and unpredictable Lagosians, every ride is an adventure, sometimes hilarious, sometimes dangerous, always dramatic.
More Adventures of a Lagos Wedding Planner
Wedding planning in Lagos is a juggling act of excessive proportions. Bisi, the no-
nonsense wedding planner, is back, taking readers on another exhilarating journey through the world of demanding brides, controlling in-laws, and weddings that go wrong
in spectacular ways. With events ranging from a bride replacing her entire bridal train at the last minute to a mother-in-law faking a heart attack mid-ceremony, this is a must-read for anyone who loves Lagos weddings and their delightful chaos.
Memoirs of a Lagos Baker
Dayo thought leaving her IT career to run a luxury cake business would be sweet and simple. Instead, she found herself knee-deep in buttercream battles, fondant-fuelled
madness, and Lagos customers who bring more drama than a Nollywood blockbuster.
Whether she’s rescuing wedding cakes from the brink of disaster, dodging fake money at the counter, or unexpectedly finding a little romance between cake orders, Dayo’s journey proves that in Lagos, cake is never just cake.
For all the readers who patiently awaited the return of Tolulope Popoola, all five collections are now available on Amazon and Selar. The ebooks are also available on Kobo, Apple and other ebook platforms, and paperback and audiobooks are to be released later this year.
Join us every Saturday, starting May 10th, to read a part of the new collections!
