On Saturday, June 21, 2025, the Pfumo Collective will host a free cultural event at the Goethe-Institut in Accra, offering the public an opportunity to engage with some of the most respected names in African literature, art, and scholarship, as part of the collective’s inaugural CITIZEN project.
The evening will feature Emmanuel Iduma, Chiké Frankie Edozien, Victor Ehikhamenor, and Ike Echeruo, who will join the CITIZEN project’s cohort of eight writers as mentors and guest facilitators alongside the Pfumo Collective’s editorial team, Ellah P. Wakatama, and Billy Kahora. As part of the public program, Martin Egblewogbe, director of the Writers Project of Ghana and co-founder of Pa Gya! Literary Festival, will moderate a special conversation with Iduma titled “War and Memory | How What We Capture Defines What We Remember.” The event will also offer an opportunity to network with other literary enthusiasts.
This free public event is part of the Pfumo Collective’s broader commitment to literary and cultural exchange that extends beyond closed-door workshops. The public conversation is a chance to include the wider community in the generative, critical thinking that shapes African literature today.
Beyond the cultural event, the CITIZEN project, created in collaboration with the Goethe-Institut offers fellows access to additional resources, including a dedicated research day at The Library of Africa and the African Diaspora (LOATAD). These sessions are designed to deepen the writers’ projects and foster long-term literary engagement. Additionally, a selection of workshop lectures will be recorded and released as audio content in partnership with The ICARUS Company, ensuring that the impact of the program extends across borders.
If you’re in Accra, don’t miss this event!
