Nigerian-American author Julie Iromuanya brought her new novel A Season of Light to the 24th Annual Wisconsin Book Festival in October. The conversation about her book was anchored by Dr. Ainehi Edoro, founder of Brittle Paper, followed by a book signing with attendees.
A Season of Light draws inspiration from the 2014 Chibok schoolgirl kidnappings in Nigeria, following Fidelis Ewerike, a Florida-based Nigerian Civil War survivor whose trauma resurfaces when the kidnapping triggers memories of his missing sister. The novel explores how inherited trauma ripples through a family when Fidelis, consumed by survivor’s guilt and fear for his sixteen-year-old daughter Amara, locks her in her bedroom, causing his family to spiral into chaos.
