Vamba Sherif is on a mission to empower young writers in Monrovia, Liberia, and Buduburam Refugee Camp in Ghana through a transformative series of writing workshops. Through his newly established foundation, Sherif is creating vital spaces for creativity, storytelling, and cultural exchange, connecting communities across Liberia, the Netherlands, Africa, and the world.
Vamba Sherif is channeling his experience and passion into nurturing the next generation of African storytellers. The inaugural project, titled “One Wor(l)d,” focuses on promoting literature and the arts through intensive writing workshops in two crucial locations: Monrovia, the capital of Liberia, and Buduburam Refugee Camp in Ghana, which has housed displaced persons from conflicts across West Africa.
The workshops offer participants opportunities to develop their craft through guided sessions, learn from an internationally recognized author, engage in cultural exchange with peers, and become part of a network connecting African writers across borders. For young people in refugee camps and underserved communities, these workshops represent more than writing instruction, they are acts of cultural affirmation and pathways to empowerment.
Your support can help these young voices be heard. Every contribution fuels the foundation’s ability to reach more writers, expand programming, and create lasting change through the transformative power of storytelling. Whether through direct donations or sharing the foundation’s work, you can be part of nurturing the next generation of African literary talent.
