The team behind Fashoverse’s archiving.fashion journal has opened submissions for their upcoming issue, Spiritual Drip, a magazine exploring the relationship between Christianity, clothing, and identity in Nigeria and Ghana. The project was sparked by a cultural flashpoint: the 2025 online backlash against Nigerians who participated in the Dress Like Your Miracle prompt of the Hallelujah Challenge, which many critics dismissed as greed. The editors saw in that moment a far more layered conversation waiting to be had, one about how West Africans relate to faith, and how that relationship shows up in what they wear.

The issue is organised around four thematic threads: how contemporary fashion designers engage with Christianity in their work; how church style shapes and is shaped by larger culture; how faith influences individual personhood and self-presentation; and how digital spaces have become stages for performing, subverting, or satirising religious identity. The editorial team is particularly interested in rigorous, original nonfiction — personal essays, historical investigations, community analyses, brand profiles, and experimental formats are all welcome. The central question threading it all together is a rich one: how have Nigerians and Ghanaians related to the Christian faith across time, and how does that relationship live in their fashion and style?

Submissions are open to writers living in Nigeria or Ghana for at least eight months of the year. The team is accepting eight written essays ranging from 1,500 to 2,500 words, and they are clear that they want diversity in both perspective and form. Accepted writers will be compensated between $80 and $100 depending on the depth of their work. AI-generated manuscripts will not be considered, this is a call for stories rooted in lived experience and genuine inquiry.

To submit, send a completed essay along with your city of residence and a paragraph explaining why the story matters to you to [email protected] by July 1, 2026 at 11:59 PM WAT. Use the subject line format: [Pitch] [Your Submission Title]. Full submission details are available at fashoverse.com.
