Six years after the release of her critically acclaimed album Transcendence, renowned Nigerian poet, and spoken-word artist Wana Udobang, widely known as Wana Wana, has released her highly anticipated fourth studio album, Dissonance.

The 14-track body of work serves as a poignant meditation on a world increasingly frazzled with tension. It explores the dualities of existing between the virtual and the physical, the friction of our current cultural moment, and the quiet, daily negotiations we make just to survive it all.

“In meditating on these feelings and ideas, what erupted was part poetry, part journal, part stream of consciousness,”says Wana Wana. “I often think that I make the work because I need it, because I am trying to make sense of things. Most of all, maybe somebody else might be trying to make sense of things too. I continue with making the work as an odyssey in meaning-making.”

To bring this vision to life, Wana reunited with her long-term musical collaborator and friend, Femi Leye, who composed all the music for the album. Leye’s compositions create a rich, immersive sonic universe that cradles Wana’s raw, vulnerable, and piercing poetry.

Dissonance marks a distinct evolution in Wana Wana’s celebrated discography, which includes Dirty Laundry (2013), In Memory of Forgetting (2017), and Transcendence (2020). While her previous bodies of work deeply examined personal memory, trauma, and healing, Dissonance turns its lens outward, capturing the collective friction and rapid fragmentation of modern life.
