Chibundu Onuzo shared on Instagram that her forthcoming novel, Sankofa, now has two cover designs!

Sankofa is set for release on June 3 from Virago Books in the U.K. and October 5 from Catapult in the United States. The red, yellow, blue cover is the UK cover while the green, blue, and gold is the US cover. The US cover was designed by Counterpoint Creative Director Nicole Caputo, an acclaimed book designer. Both covers are stunning. The blend of colors and the art convey the powerful mythic atmosphere of the novel.

Onuzo announced the forthcoming release of Sankofa last summer, shortly after graduating from King’s College with a PhD in History. The novel was inspired by her research on West African men who came to London to study from 1925 to 1970. It promises to take readers on a journey into the past to better understand the present and imagine the future.

Read the publisher’s synopsis below.

In middle age, after separating from her husband and losing her mother, Anna finds her father’s student diaries, chronicling his involvement in radical politics in 1970s London. She discovers that he eventually became the president – some would say the dictator – of the West African country of Bamana. And he is still alive. Anna decides to track him down and her journey will lead her to a new understanding of both her past and her potential future, as well as an exploration of race, identity and what we pass on to our children.
