As you head into the weekend, take some fashion inspiration from Congolese novelist Alain Mabanckou. He has been blessing our Instagram feed with carefully curated fashion ensembles, so we thought we’d share.

Mabanckou, celebrated novelist from Congo Brazzaville, is the author of reader-favorites such as Memoirs of a Porcupine, Broken Glass, Lights of Pointe-Noir, African Psycho and many more. He is also a literature professor at UCLA.

In addition to these achievements, he is known for his distinct style in clothing, which we have documented here and here. Let’s just say he is one of the top contenders for African literature’s “best dressed male writer.”

His style philosophy is centered on comfort and color. A few years back, we asked Mabanckou to describe his style. He said he loved colors and accessories, but that most of all he liked to be himself.

The pieces in the photos below certainly channel all these elements. There are vibrant colors: yellow shoes, print sweaters, a blue and purple corduroy ensemble. Sweaters and t-shirts are comfortable. And the fun selection of hats speaks to his love for accessories.

Lots of ideas to choose from whether you are in a cold or warm part of the world, whether you headed out to brunch with friends or attending a literary event.

Have a great weekend everyone!
