Egyptian-American feminist author and journalist Mona Eltahawy has chopped off all her hair to debut a fresh new look for spring season.

Eltahawy shared the photo on Instagram, remarking that her new look is part of her menopause transition:

Second Spring.
I recently learned that in Chinese, the menopause transition is referred to as the Second Spring.
I love that more than I can say!
For those of us in the northern hemisphere, Spring is here.
And my second spring is too!
These pictures are from 2020 and as I look back on them and as I prepare to buzz my hair again, I see now how shaving off all my hair was my Second Spring initiation.
Blossom!

Eltahawy is well-known for expressing her style and personality through her many unique hairstyles over the years. See this Brittle Paper post from back in 2020 when Eltahawy switched up her red shoulder-length hair to a yellow-dyed buzzcut to encourage viewers to stay home during the early months of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Her upcoming memoir explores her menopause journey and is titled The King Herself: How Hatshepsut Helped Me Unbecome.

We hope that Eltahawy’s spring look inspires everyone out there to take bold decisions. Spring is a great time to bring new changes to your life and get out of the same old routines!
