The Goethe-Institut network in Sub-Saharan Africa invites African artists, collectives and creative practitioners to create digital creative projects that can be displayed on the House of African Feminisms (HoAF) website.

The call commemorates the LGBT Pride month and is tagged “Queer Encounters In African Feminisms.” HoAF will fund projects up to EUR 1000. Artists are invited to explore novel perspectives on feminisms centered on the inclusion of queer perspectives and what that looks, sounds or reads like.

Read their call below:

“Queer feminism explicitly includes the LGBTIAQ+ community but it’s a feminism that further incorporates an intersectional approach and challenges power structures that enable all kinds of oppression across gender, sexuality, class and race. Queer Feminism posits that gender and sexuality are not central to any understanding of wider social and political processes but manifest in a complex, intersectional matrix with other social inequalities and conditions.

For this grant call  we are looking for photographic essays, reportages, short films, video works, visual, oral, audio documentaries and podcasts that question/engage queer feminism on the African continent. What role does queer feminism have to play on the continent? How does it manifest in the daily lives of African womxn? What are the historical traces of queer feminism and its potential for future feminisms? What are the practical uses of queer feminism in social and political movements on the continent?  How does a queer feminism manifest itself artistically?”
