Nigerian author Oyinkan Braithwaite marked her birthday in March with a shoot, and her caption was as warm and disarming as the fiction that made her a household name.

“Happy birthday to me! Thankful to God for another year,” she wrote. “For the past few years, I have been super indecisive when it comes to choosing what to do for my birthday and I usually end up doing nothing at all. BUT I have never had cause to worry about who I will spend the day with. So, thank you to my family and friends for always lifting me up and showing me love. And a special thank you to my daughter for singing me happy birthday in just the most darling voice.”

Braithwaite is the author of My Sister, the Serial Killer, the darkly comic thriller that took the world by storm and earned her a Booker Prize nomination and the Crime Writers’ Association’s John Creasey New Blood Dagger. The audiobook of Cursed Daughters is currently shortlisted for the 2026 British Book Awards. Clearly, she is giving us no reason to stop watching.

Happy birthday, Oyinkan!
