The 23rd Ghana International Book Fair (GIBF) will take place from Thursday 27 to Sunday 30 August 2026 at the National Theatre in Accra, running daily from 9am to 5pm. This year’s theme, “Transforming Ghana’s Future through Books,” anchors the fair around a vision of literature as an instrument of national development — a vision that has made GIBF one of the most important gatherings of book industry professionals on the continent.

The fair brings together publishers, writers, illustrators, printers, booksellers, librarians, cultural organisations, and educational institutions from Ghana and internationally to exhibit books, explore business opportunities, launch new titles, and participate in workshops, seminars, and literacy programmes. It is, in short, one of the few spaces on the continent where the full ecosystem of African publishing, from typesetters to NGOs, shares the same floor.

This year’s programming carries a particularly meaningful thread. A dedicated focus on “Inclusive Publishing: Celebrating Accessible Literature” runs through the fair, aligned with the Marrakesh Treaty’s global push for fair access to reading materials for persons with visual impairments and other print disabilities. Partners including the Ghana Blind Union will curate initiatives for book industry players and over 2,000 children, promoting alternative formats such as Braille, audio, and large print. It is a strand that asks the African publishing industry to reckon seriously with who its books actually reach.

The fair is organised by the Ghana Publishers Association, Ghana Library Association, Ghana Book Development Council, Ghana Association of Writers, and the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, with patronage from UNESCO. Exhibitor spots are available for both local and foreign participants; those wishing to attend as visitors can register free.
