Berlin’s cutting edge Galerie Wedding is hosting Nigerian-Italian artist Diana Ejaita’s first solo show, Onajite, l’Attesa. Based in Berlin, Ejaita is known for her multidisciplinary practice, which spans printmaking, illustration, and textile design. She is the author and illustrator of two children’s books and has designed covers for international reprints of books by Chimamanda Adichie, Zora Neale Hurston, Richard Wright, Alexis Pauline Gumbs, and more. She has also designed numerous covers for magazines like The New Yorker and The Republic, with illustrations featured in The New York TimesThe AtlanticThe Washington Post, and other newspapers.

Ejaita’s work often integrates the visual traditions of her West African roots, using bold imagery and symbolism to explore both personal and collective narratives. Onajite, l’Attesa marks a significant moment in her ongoing exploration of the intersection between memory, identity, and motherhood. The title of the exhibition carries deep significance: Onajite—meaning “it is enough” in Urhobo—reflects the artist’s journey of self-exploration and reconnection, particularly after becoming a mother. L’attesa, which translates to “the waiting” from Italian, represents a pause, a space for introspection and healing. In the fast-paced world of contemporary art production, where the demand for constant creation is high, Ejaita’s approach centers on slowing down, reflecting, and allowing space for personal and artistic growth.

The exhibition at Galerie Wedding, known for its commitment to showcasing innovative and diverse contemporary art, features a striking large-scale wall installation composed of archival prints, alongside a new series of paintings that delve into the intricacies of memory and storytelling. Through her art, Ejaita demonstrates how visual culture can help us make sense of our past and define our present.

Onajite, l’Attesa will be on display until February 15  — don’t miss your chance to see it in person!
