Afro Romcon, Nigeria’s first romance convention, titled “Romance Through the African Lens,” will take place in Lagos on March 15th, 2025.

Described by the organizers in a press release as “a celebration of African romance in print and on screen,” the convention will bring together African authors, filmmakers, and fans to celebrate the magic of romance. Afro Romcon “aims to highlight the richness of romance storytelling across different mediums, giving a platform to Nollywood romcoms, African romance novels, and the creators behind them.”

Participants include authors Adesuwa O’Man Nwokedi, Tomilola Coco Adeyemo, and Zainab Imam Uche, along with leading screenwriters such as Nosa Isibor and Ufuoma Bakporhe. Also participating is Jesimiel Williams, Brittle Paper’s February Writer of the Month and Modupe Daramola, founder of Noisy Streetss and members of Nigerian Indie Romance Authors (NIRA) Aminat Sanni-Kamal and Mobolaji Olanrewaju. Happiness Ogwamhenlu will host the convention.

Attendees will have the opportunity to engage in panel discussions, book chats, book signings, and interactive games that celebrate the romance genre.
