Kokonut Head Media (KNH) is raising $10,000 to fund its 2026 operations, a critical year in the nonprofit’s mission to ensure African stories reach global audiences without losing their authenticity.

If you consume African media, you’ve probably experienced this problem: our stories are often “westernized” to reach international audiences. KNH is charting a different path, one that preserves African voices in the face of market pressures. The organization is building a collection of 200 stories by 2040 that accurately represent African literary creatives.

What Kokonut Head Media Does

Design & execute a Writers in Residence program that provides stipends and coaching to emerging writers during those crucial early career years when many give up.

Publish these writers’ work, building both a body of literature and launching careers.

The impact is already visible. When readers discover KNH’s writers, they celebrate them enthusiastically. There’s real demand for authentic African stories, KNH is bridging the gap by supporting writers who might otherwise abandon their craft or compromise their vision for quick income.

KNH is raising $10,000 for:

  • Writers in Residence Program ($2,500): Support three writers with stipends and bring in guest speakers
  • Marketing ($5,000): Amplify these writers’ visibility globally through strategic promotion
  • Operations ($2,500): Maintain the infrastructure that makes this work possible

Founder Simi personally supports KNH with around $3,000 each year, which covers the operations budget and some of the Writers in Residence program. This has been enough to run operations in the past, but to make the impact they’re hoping for, the organization needs to market its work much more strategically, hence the budget increase.
