The Shallow Tales Review is hosting its sixth literary reading, and Brittle Paper readers are officially invited. Featuring 18 African writers and critics, this year’s free virtual event will be held on Saturday, 14 March 2026.

The Shallow Tales Review is an online literary journal that curates literature from Africa and across the world. Founded in August 2019 by Nigerian writer, critic, and editor Nzube Nlebedim, the journal has spent six years building one of the more consistent platforms for African literary work. Reading Shallow Tales is its annual webinar, bringing together 18 African writers in one space to read from their work and offering emerging writers the chance to network with established voices and ask questions about craft and the writing life.

The keynote address for this year’s edition will be delivered by Bibi Ukonu, award-winning writer and publisher of Griots Lounge Publishing. The event also features João Melo, Megan Natasha Ross, Sue Nyathi, Joshua Lubwama, Tolu Daniel, Zukiswa Wanner, Naomi Eselojor, Yejide Kilanko, Sabah Carrim, Phodiso Modirwa, Esther Ifesinachi Okonkwo, Simbarashe Steyn Kundizeza, Delight Ejiaka, Okwudili Nebeolisa, Christopher Armoh, Gloria Mwaniga Odary, and Brian Chikwava.

Last year’s edition featured Brittle Paper founder and editor-in-chief, Professor Ainehi Edoro-Glines as keynote speaker, alongside a similarly impressive gathering of writers and critics. The series has built a reputation as one of the more serious annual celebrations of African literary work, and the sixth edition looks to be no different.
