Noisy Streetss Publishing has opened submissions for erotica and erotic-leaning manuscripts, and they are looking for African writers who are willing to go there.

The press, which describes its mission as placing African writers on the global literary map through innovative and dynamic publishing, is making a deliberate bet on a genre that mainstream African publishing has largely left alone, and they are inviting writers who share that conviction to submit. The categories they are seeking span heavy romance with high emotional stakes, taboo and forbidden romance, and what they call “the everyday erotic” ordinary characters with a secret interior life.

To submit, writers should send an email to [email protected] with a short author query in the body of the email — a brief bio and the title and type of work — along with two Word document attachments: a one-page synopsis covering the full arc of the story including the ending, and a manuscript sample of either the first three chapters or the first 9,000 words. The subject line should follow the format: Author Name — Title of Manuscript (Erotica). Formatting requirements are specific — Source Sans, Garamond, or Times New Roman at 11pt, single-spaced, centre-justified, A4 — and submissions that do not follow them may not be considered.

A few important notes: only one submission per writer per window is accepted. Work must be original and previously unpublished. AI-generated manuscripts will not be considered; AI may be used as a drafting or research aid, but the creative work must be substantially the writer’s own and any AI assistance must be disclosed at the point of submission. If the editorial team wishes to move forward, you will hear back within four weeks. Those not selected will receive feedback and are welcome to resubmit in the next season.
